Artist Spotlight: Vicki Lynn (Maxwell)
Vicki Lynn grew up surrounded by music, guided by her father, Lee Morris, a renowned singer, songwriter and record producer who collaborated with legends like Waylon Jennings, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Mickey Gilley. Born in Georgia and raised in Nashville from age 15, Vicki spent her formative years on Music Row, immersed in the music business at The Sound Lab Recording Studio, where her father was president. Here, she honed her craft as a demo and backup singer, performing across genres—Country, R&B, Pop, Jazz, and Gospel. Her diverse background ignited a passion for creating music that transcends boundaries, and with each song, she weaves heartfelt stories, real-life struggles, and timeless memories.
Her fourteen song album Butterfly, reflects the many transformations in her life and heart. Inspired by a season of profound change, including the passing of her father in 2020, Vicki included three of his songs as a tribute. Butterfly embodies hope, faith, and new beginnings—a journey she shares with her listeners. Vicki’s music invites people to connect, heal, and find inspiration, offering universal truths and emotions in every note.
Her first single digital and video release from the Butterfly album is, “To Make You Feel My Love” featuring Chris Luezinger on acoustic and electric guitar. A reminder of what Jesus has already done to make us feel his love then and now. Following this moving song will be the title track of her album, “Butterfly,” which Vicki had no dea that this song would become her own story of transformation.
In addition, in 2025 Vicki will be releasing the song and video for Please Don’t Take Me, a moving story of love, sacrifice, and healing, delivering a message of grace, mercy, and hope.
The experiences and insights she’s gained from a lifetime in music bring authenticity and purpose to her work, promising listeners a journey of soul-stirring melodies and lyrics that linger long after the music fades.
Vicki Lynn’s love for The Lord, family, friends and all those who support her is the key to her years of perseverance.

Please Don't Take Me (The Journey)

Please Don’t Take Me is a song born from a powerful story of love, sacrifice, and healing. The song’s journey began with a 74-year-old construction worker, Donald F. Perkins, who felt called by God to share a deeply personal decision he made years ago: to keep his daughter despite facing the difficult choice of abortion. Inspired in the middle of the night, Donald poured his story onto paper, though he had never written a song or played an instrument.
Seeking someone to help bring his words to life, Donald turned to a worship leader who pointed him to Vicki Lynn, a Nashville-based artist and close friend of Donald’s sister-in-law. Vicki felt an immediate connection to the story, not only as a songwriter but as someone who had experienced the complex emotions and healing journey herself. With guitarist Ray Shavers, Vicki helped shape Donald’s story into a moving ballad, infusing it with grace, mercy, and a message of hope.
Please Don’t Take Me was crafted with compassion for those who have struggled with similar decisions, offering comfort to anyone dealing with guilt, shame, and self-forgiveness. The song was created and recorded at Nashville Sound Studios, where Vicki worked to ensure it would touch hearts and guide listeners toward healing.
The song not only celebrates Donald’s choice and his family’s blessings, but it also acknowledges the redemption and grace available to all. Both Donald and Vicki now enjoy the love of their families and grandchildren, a testament to their journeys. Please Don’t Take Me serves as a reminder that, even in our most difficult choices, there is always a path to forgiveness, healing, and hope.

Please Don’t Take Me
Vicki Lynn Maxwell – ASCAP- Written by: Vicki Lynn Maxwell and Donald F. Perkins
When I was just a baby, still in my mother’s womb
I heard him say, “Don’t keep her,” from the other room
I grew and grew inside her, as healthy as can be
Now they’re glad they kept me, God’s so good you see
Please don’t take me, Please don’t take me.
I’m that little heart beating deep inside of you
And when I kick your tummy, a smile will come to you
It’s my way of saying I’m growing big and strong
And when I finally get there, I’ll be at home
Please don’t take me, Please don’t take me.
Please don’t take me, I’ll be closer than a friend
Please don’t take me, I’ll be with you ’til the end
Please don’t take me, I’m a living soul
Please don’t take me, I’ll be there when you’re old
Please don’t take me.
You’ll be glad you kept me when I look into your eyes
I look just like you, that’s no big surprise
Now I’m a little girl, I love to run and play
My parents are watching over me each and every day
So glad you kept me, So glad you kept me.
Now that I am grown, I’ve been truly blessed
God’s given me a husband and I think he’s the best
Now I’m a mommy, and he’s daddy—oh, and we’re so happy,
We’re a family.
Please don’t take them, they’ll be closer than a friend
If you’ve done this, there’s forgiveness in heaven
Please don’t take them, oh please don’t take them
Please don’t take them.
